Inverter Loss: 240V vs 12V Charging
Is it worth buying the 12V charger? Compare the battery use.
Running a device through an inverter wastes some energy in conversion, and the inverter uses power just being switched on. This compares that with a 12V or USB charger. Everything is worked out in your browser. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere.

What this does and doesn't tell you
- Idle draw is in the inverter's spec sheet as "no-load current" or "no-load power".
- While the device runs, the idle draw is already part of the efficiency loss, so idle is only counted for the extra hours.
- Work on 240V AC wiring, including inverter outputs and mains inlets, must be done by a licensed electrician. For high-current DC gear, follow the maker's installation manual and have an auto electrician check your work if you're unsure.
